Get started with NacTrack
Ten steps, in order, from installation to a collection that runs by itself. Each page says what to do, what you should see, and what to do if it does not work.
The path
- InstallSteps 1 and 2
- CollectSteps 3 to 5
- UseSteps 6 and 7
- Keep it runningSteps 8 to 10
The ten steps
Follow them in order the first time; come back to the one you need afterwards.
Install
One dedicated machine, two ways to put NacTrack on it, and an administrator login at the end.
Step 2First sign in
The administrator account from the installation, and an interface that guides you while the inventory is empty.
Step 3Credentials
One entry per set of accounts, typed once, reused by every device that shares it.
Step 4Devices
A device is declared by its IP address. For a whole estate, discovery starts from one device and follows its neighbours.
Step 5First collection
NacTrack opens a read session on each device, reads its configuration and state, then logs out.
Step 6Your data
One collection feeds the inventory, ports, neighbours and topology at the same time.
Step 7Compliance and CVE
Three screens in the Security menu, each with one button to know the first time.
Step 8Schedule
A schedule runs collection again at a fixed interval, on the whole estate or part of it.
Step 9Users
One account per person, a role that sets what they can do, tenants that set what they see.
Step 10Operate
Four administration screens to know once the estate is collected.
After these steps
The how-to guides then answer one precise question at a time: find a port from a MAC address, list free ports, check a version affected by a CVE.
For a question no page covers, open a ticket from the headset icon in the interface.
