Everyday questions: where is this address, which way does this traffic go, what changed.

At a glance

  1. WhereTools menu.
  2. AccessCore module and troubleshooting permission; path analysis also needs the traceroute one.
  3. DataThe collected tables: interfaces, ARP, MAC, neighbours and routes.
/troubleshooting/macfinder
MAC Finder on an address from the demo estate.

What the screen shows

IP Finder

An IPv4, an IPv6, a CIDR or a wildcard like 10.0.0.*. Results are grouped by source: ports, inventory, ARP, IPv6 neighbours, F5, BRAS, customer IPs, CDP, LLDP, IS-IS, BGP neighbours, static, IS-IS and BGP routes.

MAC Finder

A MAC in any form, an IP or text, wildcards accepted: NacTrack chains IP, ARP or NDP, MAC table and port, with VLAN, interface, device, type and age.

Path Analysis (BETA)

Traceroute: the path computed from the collected tables, compared with a live traceroute over SSH. VLAN Continuity: where a VLAN goes and where it stops.

Changes and configurations

Change Tracker lists what changed from one collection to the next; Config Compare compares two snapshots of a device; Config Search finds text across every configuration; Anomalies flags what is out of the ordinary.

What you can do

  1. 1

    Find an endpoint

MAC Finder, paste the address, read the port and VLAN.

  2. 2

    Compare two configurations

Config Compare: pick the device, snapshot A and snapshot B, the commands to compare, tick Show only changes.

Limits and things to know
