Discovery and import

Two ways to grow the inventory without typing it all: let NacTrack search, or hand it files.

At a glance

  1. WhereInventory, then Discovery; Inventory, then Config Import.
  2. AccessDiscovery: the discovery module and permission. Import: device management.
  3. DataCredentials in the vault for discovery; text files for the import.
/discovery/start
The Start a new discovery wizard and its three modes.

What the screen shows

Three discovery modes

Inventory walk: starts from your devices and follows their neighbours (recommended). Subnet sweep: a list of CIDRs. Seed probe: addresses or hostnames.

Advanced options

Max hops (unlimited by default), workers (16 by default, 1 to 64), exclude pattern, transport (SSH only by default, or with Telnet), automatic add to inventory and collection of new devices, ticked by default.

The runs

Each discovery has its page: discovered topology, overview, devices, failures, configuration; Stop, Export and Re-run.

Config Import

Text configurations, session logs, command outputs or archives (ZIP, tar, 7z), 512 MB per file at most. Phases: upload, analyze, review, import, report. For a known hostname: overwrite, import as a new device, or skip.

What you can do

Limits and things to know

Adding to the inventory

Found devices are added by the wizard's automatic add option; there is no add button on a run's page.

Import from a server path

This option is refused until an allowed path is configured.
